Legendary Shows That Have Changed Our Idea Of Television
Modern television is littered with various shows. Every time you switch the TV-set on you can see dozens of programs where people discuss stupid topics and do weird things. But there are a couple of shows that really used to have a great impact on the history oа modern television. Let’s make a quick review of them.
The Oprah Winfrey Show
Unless you’ve been living under a rock, you must have watched this show at least once in your life. The first episode of Oprah’s show was launched back in 1986 and literally made a boom. Many years have passed, but this show remains the highest-rated talk show in America. Oprah was the first woman who raised the most acute topics and discussed them live. This show was highly influential and generated lots of followers across the globe. Winfrey is famous for her great interviewing talent and the ability to ask awkward questions. Oprah gave people a chance to get the word out and talk about the most important social, political and cultural issues, and people will always remember her as the host of the most honest and sincere show in history.
The Late Show With David Letterman
Many popular musicians owe David Letterman their success and fame. Indeed, his Late Night Show is an ultimate generator of new celebrities. Apparently, this gray-haired funny old man has an eye for talents. If you see a new band performing at Letterman’s, you can be sure that tomorrow it will be seen and heard on each and every channel and radio station. Besides, he is a talented comedian which makes his shows even more fascinating. Alongside with the musicians, he invites actors, politicians and the questions he asks always reveal the best (and the worst) sides of them.
The Real World
The Jersey Shore, Keeping Up With The Kardashians, Dancing With The Stars, My Big Fat Redneck Wedding, Intervention, 16 And Pregnant… There are so many reality shows to be found on the TV today that when the next show is announced, the viewer isn’t even surprised. Yep, it is hard to impress the high-fed audience, but it wasn’t always like that. All these shows have a predecessor, and it’s all about The Real World. It hit MTV in 1992 and revolutionized the whole conception of TV shows. By that time people got bored of the “stage” shows where each and every participant knew his role through and through and every single step was easy to predict. Basically, alongside with The American Family, The Real World has launched the reality show genre.
With the respect to the previous point, American Idol – another popular reality show – differs from the rest in the niche. First time in history, being a celebrity was no longer a prerogative of the rich and influential. Now, each and every talented American teenager with the inspiration for the stage could come to American Idol and showcase his or her talents to the whole world.
So, this is a short list of the most influential shows. Hopefully, the best is yet to come 🙂
